We’ve launched our fifth anniversary celebrations with an event at the Malawi High Commission in London on 5th September. This event was the first of a series of events that will be held around the world and right here in Malawi.
The events are set to celebrate the successes of the programmes and projects, as well as the collaborations throughout the community.
The event was attended by Lake of Stars Director, Will Jameson, First Secretary-Admin and Diaspora at the Malawian Embassy, and Saffron Homayoun, a psychiatrist who has worked with Scotland Malawi Mental Health Dducation Partnership in Malawi.
“When you’re pushing the creative sector in a country which isn’t naturally set up to support it, it’s amazing to have organisations that provide a context in which young creatives can develop their dreams. In fact, it would be amazing anywhere, but for us, in Malawi, it’s pretty incredible,” Jameson said.
Jameson spoke on the important role we have played in nurturing creative development in Malawi, giving examples of the Umunthu film and Zaluso Arts, which were originally developed under our programme Students With Dreams.
The event marks the first of many international and local events to come as we celebrate five years of great work in creating, igniting, and inspiring social change through arts-based approaches.
As a part of the #ArtGloAt5 celebration, we’re inviting you to join us in igniting the next 5 years of social change. Our goal is 500 individual donations to make the next 5 years incredible.
